Zannah Noe's interest in the fine arts was fostered by her father's interest in art and her Grandfather's skill as a photographer. Upon graduating high school, she worked as an assistant to a successful Boston painter, Candace Whittamore Lovely at the historic Fenway Studios. The following year she entered college at UMass, Amherst and studied photography with the renowned fine art photographer, Carrie Mae Weems. Her work at this time, involved experimenting the large format of the 4x5 camera. She explored portraiture and the industrial landscapes around her. The processes explored in the university setting enlarged her view of the concept of mixed media and image making. She experimented with moving images through different mediums. Bringing her photos to canvas, Intaglio printmaking and eventually into the graphic arts.

She moved to San Francisco in 1991 and worked as a freelance photographer and painter's assistant to San Francisco painter, Peter Lee. Through her creativity, she has been able express her vision of beauty and articulate concepts that compel her. Language, symbolism, color, line, draftsmanship, and historical representations of engineering inform her work. She has express this always through her art and in mediums as diverse as graphics arts, culinary arts, literary arts and fine art. Currently her new studio at Hunter's Point represents her return to the visual arts as the latest medium in which to sharpen and finesse a new voice. |
